As I was surfing the internet I came across a pattern for a unique blanket. The pattern is called GROOVYGHAN by Tracy St. John. When I saw the pattern I knew I had to make this blanket! It is a combination of granny squares, circle granny squares, flowers, and granny stripe patterns.
I went to the deramores.com to find some bright shades of yarn. I decided on Special Aran by Stylecraft in the following shades (I used 2-100g balls of each shade.)
Aspen-1422
Aster-1003
Black-1002
Fondant-1241
Lavender-1188
Lipstick-1246
Meadow-1065
Raspberry-1023
Stylecraft seems to have a wide selection of bright colors and Deramores will usually have a 15% or 20% off sale. And they have fast shipping to the United States!
I followed the instructions and used a H/8 or 5mm hook which gave me a blanket that is 50 inches (127 cm) by 65 inches (165 cm).
The GroovyGhan instructions are written in U.S. terms and were easy to understand. The blanket was a breeze to complete. I think what made it easier was working each strip individually, so you did not get bored easily.
The one thing I would change would be the
flower mofits. I love the flowers and they give the blanket a more 3D look but they are not practical. For next one I make like this, I will change the flower mofit to a square within a square, a star or heart granny square, or another row of granny squares. This will help to make the blanket more consistent. The pattern is great because you can change the size of the blanket by adding rows, making the rows longer or using a DK or baby yarn with a smaller needle and reducing the number of squares.
This was a fun project and if you are looking for a colorful blanket, this is one you should try!
Happy crocheting!
Your groovyghan looks so pretty. I love the bright colors you crocheted it with. Great work. :)
