Moroccan Tile Pillow

I was not able to add the edging to the Granny Square and stripe blanket since I just received the yarn on Monday, time has not been on my side. So, I decided to finally make the pillow covers for the sitting room pillows. I bought two pillows at IKEA last year and I like the colors and the pattern but the fabric is really ruff feeling on the skin.

I did not want a lacy pillow pattern and I wanted something different than granny squares or stripes. After searching on the Internet, I came across a pattern that I fell in love with! The Moroccan Tile pattern by Tamara Kelly on the Moogly blog.

My pillow is 20 (50.8 cm) inches by 16 inches (40.64 cm)

For my pillow cover I used Stylecraft Special dk yarn in the following colors:
1 skein-Aster #1003
2 skeins-Black #1002
1 skein-Magenta #1084
1 skein-Pomegranate #1083
1 skein-Saffron #1081
1 skein-Turquoise # 1068

Hook size: G (4mm)

I needed my pillow to be  20 inches (50.8 cm) across so I started with a ch 94 (since the pattern calls for multiples of 3 + 2 +2) and  then I followed the instructions on the tutorial. (see link below)

The Moogly blog has a great tutorial and a pattern for an afghan, tote, mits and hat all made with the Moroccan Tile pattern. You can find the video tutorial on MOOGLY

This pattern is different and once you get the hang of it, it is not hard to do! I decided to make the pillow colorful, so I changed colors after every 5 rows of color.

The finished size of my cover was 20 inches (50.8 cm) by 32 inches (81.28 cm) and then I folded in in half crocheted together the sides using a sc st, inserted the pillow form and closed the end using the same sc st. (yes, I did get rid of the ruff feeling pillow cover from IKEA)

And  pillow here is my new pillow! The colors really brighten up the room!

I was really excited to be able to make my own pillow cover in the colors of my choice.
Next week will be the final edging on the Granny square and stripes blanket!

Have a great week,
Happy crocheting
