Bow Tie/Hair Bow

Yarn:
Stylecraft 100% Cotton DK (184 meters/201 yrds/100g per skein): 1 skein each #3672 Poppy, #3667 sky blue

Materials:
US Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors. bow tie clip, hair clip or burette

Difficulty:
Easy

Size:
Bow piece- 10 “ (25.5 cm ) X 2 ½” (6.35 cm) before sewing
Center band- 3 ½” (8.89 cm) X 1” (2.54 cm) before sewing
Finished size- 5” (12.5 cm) X 2 ½” (6.35 cm)

Gauge:
18 ssc and 24 rows = 4”

Stitch Guide:
ch(s) –chain(s), sc – single crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), RS – right side

Special Stitches:
Shallow single crochet (ssc)- the shallow single crochet is done by inserting the hook into the base of the stitch below the 3 horizontal loops, and between the 2 vertical threads (see tutorial in the Flowery gift blog poat here )

Notes:
Ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch

Instructions:
Bow:
Ch 48
Row 1 (RS): sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each chain across. - 47 sc
Row 2: Ch 1, ssc in the same st and in each st across. - 47 ssc stitches

Repeat row 2 until the piece measures 2 ½” (6.35 cm) wide, (about 16 rows), fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Center Band
Ch 16
Row 1 (RS): Sc in the 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across. -15 sc
Row 2: ch 1, ssc in the same st and in each stitch across- 15 ssc

Repeat row 2 until the center band measures 1” (2.54 cm) wide (about 6 rows), fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing Instructions:
Sew short ends of bow together forming a loop, flatten loop, put seam in the center back, sew center band over the bow cinching the center of the bow (see tutorial here), sew on bow tie clip or glue to a burette or hair clip.  You can add a hanger to make the bow into an ornament
