Flower Coin Purse


Size: finished size 4 ½ “ x 4” (11.5 cm x 10 cm) including purse frame
Yarn: Stylecraft 100% Cotton DK (184 meters/201 yrds/100g per skein): 1 skein each #3660 white (A), #3662 sunflower (B) and #3676 tropical jade (C)
Hook Size: F (3.75 mm)
Extras: Embroidery or tapestry needle to sew the purse body to the frame (make sure the needle can fit through the frame holes) and a 3.35” (8.5 cm) Purse frame, (the purse frame in the photo was found on Etsy from Frameyourbag)

Gauge: 18 sc and 21 rows=4"

Stitches guide:
ch(s) - chain(s), sc - single crochet, dc-double crochet, st(s)-stitch(es), rnd(s)-round(s)

Special Stitches:
Beginning popcorn stitch- ch 3, (counts as a dc), make 4 dc in the same stitch, drop the loop from the hook and insert hook from the front to the back through the top of the ch 3, then in the dropped loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.
Popcorn stitch- make 5 dc in the stitch indicated, drop the loop from the hook and insert from the front to the back through the top of the first dc, then in the dropped loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.
Puff stitch- *yarn over, insert hook into stitch indicated and pull up a loop; repeat from * two more times, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook, ch 1 to close the stitch.
Reverse single crochet (crab stitch)- insert hook in the next stitch to the right, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook. See photo tutorial here


Notes about pattern:
This pattern is written in U.S. terms              
This pattern is written for cotton dk yarn.
The ch-1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a st.
Additional yarn colors that were used in the main photo: #3674 shrimp, #3671 azure and #3673 lavender.

Insrtuctions:
With A, make a magic circle
Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc in the circle, join to first sc. -10 sc
Round 2: Puff st in the next st and in each st around, join to the top of the first puff st, -10 puff stitches
Round 3: Ch 1, * sc in puff st, sc in the space in between puff sts; repeat from * around, join to first sc and fasten off A. -20 sc
Round 4: Join color B to any sc from rnd 3, beginning popcorn st in same st as join, ch 1, * popcorn st in the next st, ch 1; repeat from * around, join to the top of beginning popcorn st and fasten off B. -20 popcorn stitches
Round 5: Join color C into the top of any popcorn st, sc in space in-between the popcorn sts, * sc in the next popcorn st, sc in space in-between popcorn sts; repeat from * around, join to first sc. -40 sc
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in same stitch and in each sc around, join to first sc and fasten off, weave in ends. -40 sc

Sew purse into the purse frame at the top, and add edging, which will close up the bottom of the purse. See tutorial here

Edging is done with a reverse single crochet stitch.
