Framed Granny

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 4 ¼ in square (10.7 cm square)

Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK, any DK yarn will work. Colors used can be found in the blog post from August 17, 2023

Materials: US Size G (4 mm) crochet hook, Yarn Needle, scissors, tape measure

Notes:

Ch-3 counts as a st.

Ch-2 counts as a st.

3 dc in a sp= 3 dc cluster

Instructions:

Make a magic circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, * 3 dc, ch 1, repeat from * two more times, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off- - (4 dc clusters, 4 ch-1 sps).

Rnd 2: Join new yarn to any ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, (corner made), * ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next space, repeat from * two more times, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off- (8 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps).

Rnd 3: Join new yarn to any ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, * ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the ch 2 corner sp, repeat from * around, join to beginning  ch 3, fasten off- (12 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 8 ch-1 sps).

Rnd 4: Join new yarn to any ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, * ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sps, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the ch 2 corner sp, repeat from * around, join to beginning  ch 3, fasten off- (16 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 12 ch- 1 sps).

Rnd 5: Frame- Join yarn in any ch-2 corner sp, ch 2, 2 hdc in the same sp, hdc in each st and ch-1 sp across, * 3 hdc in the next ch-2 corner sp, hdc in each st and ch-1 sp across; Repeat from * around, join to beginning ch-2, fasten off- (72 hdc).

Weave in ends and block.

This pattern was created to make it easier to join your squares together, since there are an equal number of stitches on every side.
