Small Daisy Granny Square

Yarn: DK yarn, Stylecraft Special DK yarn.

Color combinations used for each square is in the blog post from August 10, 2023.

Materials: US Size G (4.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn Needle

Difficulty:  Intermediate

Size: 4-inch square

Size gauge:

Through round 3 = 2 ¾ inches

Through round 4 = 3 ½ inches

Stitch Guide: ch(s) - chain(s), sc - single crochet, dc-double crochet, hdc-half double crochet, st(s)-stitch(es), rnd(s)-round(s)

Special Stitches:

Beginning popcorn stitch- ch 3, (counts as a dc), make 3 dc in the same stitch, drop the loop from the hook and insert hook from the front to the back through the top of the ch-3, then in the dropped loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.

Popcorn stitch- make 4 dc in the stitch indicated, drop the loop from the hook and insert from the front to the back through the top of the first dc, then in the dropped loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.

Puff stitch- *yarn over, insert hook into stitch indicated and pull up a loop; repeat from * two more times, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook. 

Notes:

Ch-1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. The instructions are written to change yarn in round 4,5,6, but you can change yarn in any round.

Instructions:

Begin with a magic circle.

Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in the circle, join to first sc. -8 sc

Round 2: * Puff st in the next st, ch 1; Repeat from * around, join to the top of the first puff st, - 8 puff stitches + 8 ch-1 sps.

Round 3: Ch 1, * sc in the top of the puff st, sc in the ch-1 space in-between puff sts; Repeat from * around, join the first sc, fasten off. -16 sc

Round 4: Join yarn in any sc from round 3, beginning popcorn st in same st as join, ch 1, * popcorn st in the next st, ch 1; Repeat from * around, join to the top of the beginning popcorn stitch, fasten off. -16 popcorn stitches + 16 ch-1 sps.

Round 5- Join yarn in any ch-1 space between popcorn clusters, (ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space as join (corner made), 3 hdc in the next ch-1 sp, 3 sc in the next ch-1 sp, 3 hdc in the next ch-1 sp, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in the next ch-1 space, 3 hdc in the next ch-1 sp, 3 sc in the next ch-1 sp, 3 hdc in the next ch-1 sp; Repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. – 8 dc clusters + 8 hdc clusters + 4 sc clusters

Round 6- Join yarn in any ch-3 corner space, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in the same corner sp, (ch 2, sc in the space in- between the clusters) 4 times, ch 2, * (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in the next corner sp, (ch 2, sc in the space in-between the clusters) 4 times, ch 2; Repeat from * around, join to beginning hdc, fasten off, - 8 hdc + 16 sc + 24 ch-2 sps.
